Mirror Text vs. Upside Down Text
Mirror text flips the visual direction horizontally: the characters are replaced with reflected forms and the word order runs backwards, producing the look of writing seen in a mirror. Upside-down text, by contrast, rotates the message vertically and reverses its order so it reads correctly when the device is turned over.
The two are the most commonly confused pair in the fancy-text family, so the quick test is how you decode them. If the message needs a mirror, it is mirror text; if it needs a 180-degree turn, it is upside-down text. They are generated by different character substitutions and are not interchangeable.
The mirrored-writing tradition is older than the internet: Leonardo da Vinci kept notebook entries in backwards script, and puzzle-makers have used reversed text as a light cipher ever since. Modern mirror text inherits that mystique without any of the manual effort.
How Mirror Text Works
